Refresh Vaucluse and Diamond Bay
The design, construction, testing and commissioning of new wastewater infrastructure in the Vaucluse and Diamond Bay areas.
Description
The Refresh Vaucluse and Diamond Bay project involves the design, construction, testing and commissioning of new wastewater infrastructure in the Vaucluse and Diamond Bay areas to divert untreated wastewater from three ocean outfalls to the Bondi wastewater treatment plant (WWTP).
Once completed, the project will stop the continuous flow of untreated wastewater into the ocean, improving the harbour and coastal water quality, and protecting the health of the community and marine ecology.
Scope of work
Sydney Water is partnering with Comdain to deliver the project. This includes the detailed design and construction of two new wastewater pumping stations, a 1.8-kilometre wastewater pipeline and supporting infrastructure such as reticulation pipelines, maintenance holes and ventilation points.
Approach
Comacon’s consultant is embedded in the project team, supporting Sydney Water and Comdain in developing and implementing the overarching communications and stakeholder engagement strategy and localised action plans for the key areas where construction activities will take place.
As the project moves through the design phase, the project team is using deliberative engagement methods to consult with stakeholders in three phases (50%, 90%, 100% design stages). This includes undertaking regular reviews with a committee of residents, working closely with local councils and seeking broader community feedback through the project's website, webinars, drop-in sessions and surveys.
Comacon is also working with the project team to plan the timing and staging of construction activities which are expected to begin in mid-2022 and minimise impacts for the community. Our role includes developing content for website pages, social media, media, FAQs, project newsletters, letters, infographics and internal channels, building relationships with the local community, responding to enquiries and issues management.
